viral spots for firefox

taste the difference – mozilla europe launched three spots.

in september 2004 i wrote about the cool and viral idea launching the spreadfirefox.com-website, supporting the exponentially growing enthusiastic community around the open source browser firefox. at that time they wanted to reach the 1 million downloads, today they have reached 57 million downloads.

firefox has already such a big highly involved fan/missionary-community and the spots are neither extremely funny nor really viral, so at my point of view these spots were rather unnecessary, maybe even counterproductive.

nevertheless i like firefox and will spread more word-of-mouth, so just get it and “rediscover the web” …

(via werbung mit kleinem budget, werbeblogger and spiegel online)

addition: the spots above were produced by eric pozzo criticised by the firefox community as not communicating any benefits of the browser, so the young design student eric edwards made his own advert.
