guidelines for viral marketing

last thursday the viral + buzz marketing association (vbma) published their mission statement “vbma manifesto 1: mission and affiliation” [ pdf ] as the organization’s mission and guiding principles for network-enhanced word-of-mouth marketing campaigns.

this was on top of the agenda since their foundation in may 2004, because there is a lot of debate and confusion in general marketing circles about what is and isn’t viral marketing, and how it is differentiated from buzz and/or word-of-mouth marketing, said vbma president thomas zorbach, of vm-people.
